Different jobs require different levels of time commitment and physical strength. Some jobs require you to be at the theatre at 8am. Some jobs require lots of walking up and down steps.

All volunteer positions require a cheerful attitude, a willingness to work hard, and a love of the Mountain Play! All volunteers are required to attend a brief volunteer check in, orientation and training upon arrival on the mountain.
Over 800 people can hike down after the show, it is important to help keep them on the right trail during this 2 to 3 hour hike. Hike guides will be assigned stations along the trail in order to direct the flow of hikers. You must be in good physical condition and if you wish to be stationed with a partner please let us know. Hike down guides need to take the bus up as they will not be driving down! This job ends by 6 - 7 PM in downtown Mill Valley. Grab a Mt. Play shuttle back to Tam High or Manzanita Parking lots.
Volunteers must arrive by 8:00 AM.
You take tickets and hand out programs, as well as greet everyone. You are the first people playgoers meet when arriving on the Mountain, so it’s really important that you help set the tone with a cheerful and enthusiastic attitude. We assign two people per gate whenever possible
We have four gates at which volunteers will stand and hand out programs and collect tickets.
The Raffle is one of our biggest fundraisers and needs volunteers who are great at selling and schmoozing!
Volunteers must arrive by 10:00 AM.
You will be given a helium balloon and a fashionable apron to set you apart as a Raffle Sales Person. Each seller will be assigned to a particular section of the theatre. You sell tickets until show time, during intermission and after the show. You will be walking up and down the Theatre steps. This is a very important job, you should be outgoing and like talking to people and selling. Raffle ticket sales have raised more than $20,000 to support the productions in past years.
Volunteers work to help “tuck people in” after their picnic and ask them to occupy just one seat. Ushers work optimally in teams of 2. The critical time for the ushers starts about noon when bus loads of people are arriving. This is the point when a partner is most needed. One person scouts for seats while the other spots wandering patrons, just arriving at the top of the theater. Great diplomacy skills and a sense of humor a must. If you sign up without a partner, we’ll team you up.
You will be walking up and down the amphitheatre steps.
More fun than it sounds!
This busy location needs enthusiastic volunteers to help monitor restroom lines, direct patrons to available restrooms and assist in dispensing soap and hand towels. Who said show business wasn’t glamorous?
Some physical strength, patience and good people skills a must. Assisting wheelchair patrons getting situated in their section, policing the seats directly beneath the platform to keep unauthorized patrons from sitting in these seats. This job ends after the show when all disabled patrons have safely exited.
This position specifically involves direction of bus riders after the performance. You will assist our Board members and staff in monitoring the flow of the crowd. This job may also include directing hikers to the staging area where a van is waiting to take their belongings to downtown Mill Valley. You may also may double as an usher or raffle sales person at the beginning of the day if you wish.
Membership is our VIP seating. Staffed by our board members, we need volunteers to help prepare reserved seating area, sign in patrons and sponsors, assist them in getting settled and keep things running smoothly. This is a
great job for an active people-person who loves to schmooze.
Working with paid parking attendants, you'll greet patrons, facilitate smooth traffic and help ease the flow of the newly arriving patrons into the amphitheatre. Volunteers need to be enthusiastic, cheerful and quick on their toes. This fun job requires an upbeat personality, confident attitude and a willingness to help patrons and their belongings off the busses.
Volunteers will fill- up water bottles for sale at the T-shirt booth for patrons on warm days. This is a fantastic job for younger volunteers!
We need volunteers to act as our helpful ambassadors to the recipients of our Outreach Program, consisting of children and families from 4 organizations representing underserved communities. You’ll greet them at the bus, assist them in meeting hike guides, finding their seats and organizing their belongings, distribute Mt. Play t-shirts and helping them back to their bus after the performance.
Stand at the front gate and greet volunteers, confirm volunteer status and direct them to the Volunteer Booth.
Set-up bike parking area, monitor bikes throughout the performance, checking bike out to patron’s as they leave the performance. We would be thrilled to find someone who can do all or most of the shows!
